Ревю на "A Column of Fire" на Кен Фолет

"A Column of Fire" is the third part in Ken Follett's Kingsbridge trilogy. For many readers the first part is the best one, but in my opinion "A Column of Fire" is just as good. While the first two parts are written following the same pattern, the third part breaks the mould to a certain extent - once again religion is at the heart of the story and there are strong and interesting female characters, but this time most of the action takes place outside of Kingsbridge - in Paris and London. The story is woven into the events that shape the 16th century of the history of England and France, most notably the struggle for power between catholicism and protestantism and the reign of queen Elizabeth I. This is yet another very long book, the story spans several decades of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th centuries, but it never gets boring and is well worth the reader's time. I have always found this period of English history quite fascinating, so Follett's book was not a disappointment, quite the contrary. I would definitely recommend it.
